I work near Abingdon Square. I think having a morning park clean-up could be a great way to bring my neighbors together to improve this great little public space.

Where & Why

Abingdon Square is a lovely little park. It lives at 12th Street and Hudson Street. I walk by every day on my way to work. It's a nice place to have a chat n chew. It's really well-designed, too. Even though you are walled in by cars on all three sides of the triangle, the park itself seems quite peaceful and pleasant. It's beautifully maintained, and neighborhood children, fashionistas and homeless people all seem to appreciate the seating and surroundings. In short, Abingdon Square brings people together. I think it might help me meet my neighbors, and I think we could really clean up the park quickly, to the benefit of many. Often, papers and other rubbish get tangled in the bushes. Over time, the place starts looking a bit crumpled.

What To Do

- Talk to the Parks Dept, ask whether they have any advice  ** Need a good contact for this area of the city

- Make an announcement at Alvin's birthday party on the 21st.

- Flyer in the neighborhood.

- Ask around to see if any coffee shops will donate a canister of coffee a/o some muffins. Could make the case that the more people use a park [that is so well-designed for munching and sipping], the better life is for the coffee shop.

How You Can Help

We're having the clean-up on Saturday the 14th. Can you make it? 10am-noon.

- Add yourself to the RSVP and contacts list .

- Add someone else's info to the RSVP and contacts list and I will follow up. Alternately, you can email the contact to me at vhamer@openplans
